Lately, a confectionery refused to make a cake for 3-year old Adolf Hitler: a move which definitely showed that they do not support such trends. Apparently, Adolph's parents were taken aback, saying that it is unfair on their child. But what about their being unfair on him by giving him such a name?
The father said that "a name's a name", and went on to ask for more tolerance. Is it so? In my opinion, a name is much more then a name: it is a statement; a representation of something else...and in this case, what this name stands for is by far one of the most horrid acts mankind has ever experienced. it is the representation of a massacre which is still fresh in our minds; a massacre of which the effects are still being felt today. Secondly, how could he expect that people be tolerant to someone whose name stands for intolerance?
Adolf Hitler is not the only child in this family: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, both younger then the 3-year old. While I have no idea where the name 'Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie' was inspired from, there is little doubt that the first name refers to Hitler's idea of a superior race (Aryan Race), and his blind determination to make Germany an Aryan Nation. These names are racist; the link between both being too strong to dissolve.
But this is history, right? Maybe the Campbells just wanted to remove the taboo tied to this name for the good of humanity...but is it fair that their son should be the human sacrifice used to achieve this? The couple failed to foresee the social problems their son would meet when he grows up...bullying at schools and such... . Is it right that they should risk turning their son into another Hitler because of being made deliberately inferior? The father said that we should look ahead and forget the past...but is he practicing what he's teaching? After all he did use a name for his child which was sucked intentionally out of the past...
This incident is probably just one of many, in which parents give their children inappropriate names, either deliberately or because of carelessness. Such child abuse, for there is no other name for it, should not be allowed.
